SSHRC Grant Awarded to Two Faculty of Education Researchers

This week SSHRC awarded a Partnership Research Grant to Dr. Lorayne Robertson and Dr. Bill Muirhead (Fac of Ed) and Dr. Bill Kapralos (Dept. of Engineering and Computer Science) for the “Ready Teacher One” project. They will be researching the impact of teacher professional development (PD) offered entirely in virtual reality. Joannie Girard, an MA thesis candidate, will be working with the team.
Their community partner in this endeavour is the Centre Franco Ontarien, which provides PD to teachers in the 12 French First-Language school districts across Ontario. Participating teachers will attend eight PD sessions in Virtual Reality using the Oculus Rift HMD. This innovative professional offering is a first for the French school districts and an exciting new partnership for Ontario Tech University's Faculty of Education.
