Associate Teachers
The Essential Role of Associate Teachers
Associate Teachers are key partners in preparing future educators. By opening their classrooms to our Teacher Candidates, they take on additional responsibilities beyond their daily teaching practice. We deeply appreciate the guidance, mentorship, and professional expertise they provide.
Support from Practicum Advisors
Practicum Advisors maintain ongoing communication with Associate Teachers throughout the placement. Their role is to:
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with Associate Teachers
- Support both the Teacher Candidate and the Associate Teacher
- Assist when concerns or difficulties arise
- Ensure a clear and consistent line of communication
Advisors are a resource on which you can rely, especially when a Teacher Candidate needs additional support.
Communication and Early Intervention
Just as in K-12 settings, Teacher Candidates benefit from scaffolding, clear expectations, and constructive feedback. While many will progress smoothly, some may need more time or targeted support to meet practicum requirements.
Associate Teachers are encouraged to:
- Address concerns with the Teacher Candidate as soon as they arise
- Notify the Practicum Advisor early
- Document and communicate observations clearly and promptly
Early communication allows the Frazer Faculty of Education to put the right supports in place and helps ensure the Teacher Candidate has every opportunity to grow and succeed.
