Attendance during Practicum
If, for any reason, a Teacher Candidate is absent during the Practicum (for a full or half day), the following protocol must be followed:
- Notify the Associate Teacher and Foundations Instructor via an agreed upon method (e.g., email, text, via the school office) before the school day begins.
- Submit all lesson plans and related materials before the school day begins.
- Arrange to make up any missed days at a time mutually agreed upon with the Associate Teacher.
- In the case of inclement weather, follow the procedure as outlined by the host school/board; any missed days must be made up.
- Should a Practicum Day fall on a PA Day or Parent/Guardian:Teacher Interview Day for the board, the Teacher Candidate may be invited by the Associate Teacher (with permission of the principal) to attend and is encouraged to do so. If they are not invited to attend, the missed day must be rescheduled.
- No BEd program classes shall be missed to attend the school for either make-up days or special school events (e.g., Field Trips).
Associate Teacher Absences
Should the Associate Teacher be absent, a plan must be in place for the Teacher Candidate to continue to be with an OCT member and employed teacher of the board for the duration of the placement day. No Teacher Candidate shall remain alone in a classroom without supervision of such a teacher.
- If a Teacher Candidate is in the position of having no supervision, they are to contact the Practicum Office immediately.
