Evaluation of Practicum

The Interim Report

The Interim Report is an opportunity for the Teacher Candidate to receive feedback specific to the rubric upon which their Final Evaluation is made. It is an assessment for learning.

The Associate Teacher will receive a copy of the Interim Report from the Practicum Office to complete mid-way through the Teaching Block.

  • Consideration for the Teacher Candidate's status as a developing teacher (and not that of an experienced educator) should be given when assessing.
  • The Interim Report should be filled out, shared with and signed by the Teacher Candidate.
    • A copy of the signed report should be provided to the Teacher Candidate, who is responsible for sharing it with their Advisor and uploading it to their Field Experience Portfolio.

If the Teacher Candidate is experiencing difficulty:

  • If a Teacher Candidate is struggling to meet the expectations, they will be supported by an Improvement Action Plan (IAP) created by the faculty Advisor with input from the Associate Teacher; this allows for specific direction to be given so that the Teacher Candidate may be successful.
    • The IAP is dated and signed by both the Associate Teacher and the Teacher Candidate.
If, at any time, the Teacher Candidate is not meeting Level 2 of the expectations, the faculty needs to know so that it may provide support. Please contact the Teacher Candidate's Advisor with your concerns as soon as possible.

The Associate Teacher will not be put in the position of communicating failure of a Practicum to a Teacher Candidate.

The Final Report

The Practicum Final Report is an official document and will be used by Teacher Candidates when they are applying for teaching positions.

The Associate Teacher will receive a copy of the Final Report and submission instructions from the Practicum Office during the latter part of the Teaching Block. Please reach out to the Faculty Advisor if you need assistance completing the report.
