Progression through Second Practicum:
Guidelines for Spring 2027

Each Associate Teacher (AT) will:

provide the Teacher Candidate (TC) with appropriate topics and guidance for the TC’s lessons, and establish a time to review the TC’s lesson plans in advance;
establish a routine on how the TC will share their lesson plans (e.g., through their Field Experience Binder/Portfolio, via email, through Google Drive, etc.);
allow the TC to take the lead of the general routines of their classes (i.e., entry / dismissal of students, opening exercises, attendance, etc.) as agreed upon; and
plan to have the TC teach one lesson per day beginning on Thursday.

Each Associate Teacher (AT) will:

continue their mentorship and supervisory responsibilities, and report any concerns about the Teacher Candidate to the TC’s Foundations Instructor (who is also the TC’s Advisor);
provide the Teacher Candidate with appropriate guidance for the next day's lesson and establish a time to review their lesson plan in advance;
make sure that the TC is only teaching 1 out of 3 classes at the secondary level OR approximately 30% of the instructional time at the elementary level;
use the Interim Report (which is due Friday, April 9) as a guideline for regular oral and written feedback;
immediately bring any areas assessed as Needs Improvement on the Interim Report to the attention of the Advisor; and
reach out to the TC’s Advisor if the TC is experiencing difficulty so that an Improvement Action Plan (IAP) can be put into place, if necessary, to support the improvement of the TC in the area(s) of concern.

Each Associate Teacher (AT) will:

continue their mentorship and supervisory responsibilities;
have the Teacher Candidate teach approximately 30-50% of their instructional time each day, and allow the TC to observe and assist them for the remainder of each day;
review each lesson plan the TC will implement a day in advance, as per the routine that was previously established with the TC;
provide opportunities to debrief with the Teacher Candidate in order to provide feedback regarding their lesson implementation and/or their management of general routines;
review instructions about the completion of the Final Report that sent this week.

Each Associate Teacher (AT) will:

continue their mentorship and supervisory responsibilities;
maintain the TC’s instructional time of approximately 30-50% of instructional time (which is at the discretion of the AT);
reach out to the TC’s Advisor if the TC is experiencing difficulty so that an Improvement Action Plan (IAP) can be put into place, if necessary, to support the improvement of the TC in the area(s) of concern.

Each Associate Teacher (AT) will:

continue their mentorship and supervisory responsibilities;
increase the TC’s instructional time to approximately 60-75% of instructional time (which is at the discretion of the AT);
reach out to the TC’s Foundations Instructor and Advisor if the TC is experiencing difficulty so that an Improvement Action Plan (IAP) can be put into place, if necessary, to support the improvement of the TC in the area(s) of concern.

Each Associate Teacher (AT) will:

maintain the TC’s instructional time of approximately 60-75% of instructional time (which is at the discretion of the AT);
reach out to the Advisor should you have any concerns as you plan to complete the Final Report
(any Level 1s at all warrant contact);
complete the Final Report by Thursday, April 28; and
ensure that all assessment, evaluation, and school resources (including keys) are returned prior to the completion of the Final Report.
