Ontario Tech acknowledges the lands and people of the Mississaugas of Scugog Island First Nation.

We are thankful to be welcome on these lands in friendship. The lands we are situated on are covered by the Williams Treaties and are the traditional territory of the Mississaugas, a branch of the greater Anishinaabeg Nation, including Algonquin, Ojibway, Odawa and Pottawatomi. These lands remain home to many Indigenous nations and peoples.

We acknowledge this land out of respect for the Indigenous nations who have cared for Turtle Island, also called North America, from before the arrival of settler peoples until this day. Most importantly, we acknowledge that the history of these lands has been tainted by poor treatment and a lack of friendship with the First Nations who call them home.

This history is something we are all affected by because we are all treaty people in Canada. We all have a shared history to reflect on, and each of us is affected by this history in different ways. Our past defines our present, but if we move forward as friends and allies, then it does not have to define our future.

Overview

Our program allows you the flexibility to design your own learning experience so you can achieve your specific goals. It features four options for completing your program:

  • Master of Education – course-only option
  • Master of Education – project option
  • Master of Arts in Education
  • Graduate Diploma in Education and Digital Technologies

 You may select courses from a wide variety of areas, including

  • Education and Digital Innovation
  • Innovative Leadership in Education
  • Critical Exploration of Learning
  • Mental Health and Wellness
  • Equity and Inclusion

Program Options

  • Master of Education - Course-only

    Our Master of Education (MEd) course-only option consists of 10 courses, each with a value of three credits, for a total of 30 credits.

    You are required to take 2 Core Education courses:

    • EDUC 5001G - Principles of Learning
    • EDUC 5002G - Introduction to Research in Education

    You then choose 8 courses from ANY one of our 5 themes:

    • Education and Digital Innovation
    • Innovative Leadership in Education
    • Critical Exploration of Learning
    • Mental Health and Wellness
    • Equity and Inclusion
    You can also develop your own course (EDUC 5901G - Directed Studies) with the permission of a professor.
  • Master of Education - Project

    Our Master of Education (MEd) project option consists of 8 courses (24 credits in total), and the completion of a 2-course research project (six credits).

    You are required to take 2 Core Education courses:

    • EDUC 5001G - Principles of Learning
    • EDUC 5002G - Introduction to Research in Education
    • EDUC 5003G - Research Proposal Seminar (optional but recommended)

    You then choose 8 courses from ANY one of our 5 themes:

    • Education and Digital Innovation
    • Innovative Leadership in Education
    • Critical Exploration of Learning
    • Mental Health and Wellness
    • Equity and Inclusion

    You can then complete a 2-course project over two terms.  A project is typically a 40-60 page literature review of a specific areas of interest. Before transferring to the MEd - Project option, you must find a supervisor. 

  • Master of Arts in Education - Thesis

    Our Master of Arts (MA) option consists of 6 courses (18 credits in total), and the completion of a 4-course thesis (12 credits), for a total of 30 credits.

    You are required to take 3 Core Education courses:

    • EDUC 5001G - Principles of Learning
    • EDUC 5002G - Introduction to Research in Education
    • EDUC 5003G - Research Proposal Seminar

    You then choose 3 courses from ANY one of our 5 themes:

    • Education and Digital Innovation
    • Innovative Leadership in Education
    • Critical Exploration of Learning
    • Mental Health and Wellness
    • Equity and Inclusion

    You can then complete a 4-course thesis over four terms.  A thesis is typically a 60-100 page original study that requires the collection and analysis of data. Before transferring to the MA - Thesis option, you must find a supervisor. 

  • Graduate Diploma in Education and Digital Technologies

    Our graduate diploma is an excellent option for students who

    • Do not meet the required 3.0 GPA/4-year degree conditions (also known as non-standard applicants) and want to bridge into our Master of Education program (see bridging option under application information); or,
    • Wish to pursue graduate-level courses without completing a full master’s degree.

    This option requires the completion of any 4 courses, selected from our 5 themes:

    • Education and Digital Innovation
    • Innovative Leadership in Education
    • Critical Exploration of Learning
    • Mental Health and Wellness
    • Equity and Inclusion

Special Partnerships and AQs

AQ Course Credits for Transfer
  • Starting May 2025 (for new students only)
    • A maximum of two transfer credits can be attained through qualified AQ specializations if accepted into our program.
    • Standard PQP1 and PQP2, combined, can also count for a single Master's course if accepted into our program.
